The World’s Best Teacher

I remember the world’s best teacher.  She was always filled with joy, excited to be at school, consistently shared her cookies, and played with us while on the playground.  She made the lessons seem like games and the students seem like brothers, sisters and cousins.  We were a family that learned while playing.  We wanted to be at school learning.  She was the world’s best teacher.

I bet you can look in the mirror and see all the same characteristics.  Or maybe this is the way your students speak of you, either way, these characteristics are what we as teachers strive to possess. As a way to say thank you to all the fabulous  teachers and mentor teachers I had as a student and a teacher, I am connecting you to sales, freebies, and words of encouragement.

My favorite memories of the world’s best teacher are like a morphed new teacher of all the wonderful memories of teachers of my entire life.  They are memories of the strict, creative, rigorous, excited and approachable teachers of my lifetime.  But my most heart touching memories are:

n

1-when Mrs. Wyess in first grade at Knight Elementary in Lilburn GA, she welcomed me into her classroom as a new student and loved  me for who I was- a buck toothed, scared little new girl,

n

2- and when I was in 8th grade at Trickum Middle school, Mrs. Cherry introduced me to the joy of mentoring others while in a club to help other students cope with issues of middle school,

n

3- and my first year teacher mentor, at Bethesda Elementary School in Lawrenceville, Mrs. Janie Wicker, for training me to be the world’s best teacher, because she was just that, the world’s best!

n

All the ways you interact with children and their families, all the ways that were modeled for you through your childhood and profession, what is one thing your remember as being the example of a world’s best teacher?  Let everyone know, shout it to the world so that on those hard days, we have something to lift us up.  Please leave your comment below.

n

You are the world’s best teacher-never forget that!

n

Blessing y’all,

n
